Do zero-proof spirits contain sugar?

Some do, in small amounts. Barnes & Brown 0.0% spirits are not sugar-free across the range. A 30 ml serve sits between 0.6 g and 4.8 g of sugars. Miss Agave and Southern Belle are the driest. Signorina Valentina and Lady Marmalade carry more, as aperitif and triple-sec styles should.

Why the numbers differ

Do zero-proof spirits contain sugar in the same way a mocktail does? No. A juice-and-syrup mocktail can carry far more than 5 g in one glass. These bottles are 1:1 bases. Aperitif and orange-liqueur styles need some sugar for structure. Gin-, tequila- and bourbon-style pours stay dry so tonic or citrus can do the rest.

  • Want the driest serve — Miss Agave or Southern Belle with soda.
  • Building a spritz or margarita — Valentina or Lady Marmalade already bring a little sweetness.
  • The mixer still adds more sugar than the spirit in most long drinks.
